estimated to be 13.87 million. The history of population in Ontario, Canada
starts with the war of 1812 when the American troops invaded the Upper part of
Canada across the Niagara river and the Detroit River, but got badly defeated
and had to move back thanks to the British. The Americans however gained back
the control of Lake Erie and Lake Ontario. In the Battle of York in 1813,
American troops took over the Town of York as well, looted the town and burned
the parliament buildings.
After this war however, peace prevailed and stability n the area allowed a
lot of immigrants to arive in Ontario from Europe and not the US. But even
though the land was free to occupy, the climate was too harsh for most and they
returned back home. But the population growth exceed the immigrants thanks to
the agrarian based society, canal projects, plank road projetcs and the inland
waterways bettered the transportation, industries flourished and the population
grew.
The population which was just 952,004 in 1851 more than doubled by 1901 to
2,182,947. By 1951 it again doubled to 4,597,542 and by 2001 the population once
again doubled to11,410,046. As it can be seen the population doubled every 50
years. The 2006 census proved the population to be 12,160,282 and the 2011
census found it to have increased to 12,851,821 which means that at this time
the Ontario population is showing the same growth rate of doubling every 50
years with an expected population at this time to be 13.87 million people in
Ontario.

water bodies and terrain.

proximity to Great Lakes which modifies the temperatures by releasing the stored
heat near its shores making the southern ONtario parts milder in winters

December 2010 a record was set when it snowed one meter in 48 hours. The
climatic conditions existing in Central Eastern Ontario is moderate humid
continental type which is warm and at time hot in summers with very cold and
long winters with lots of snowfall.
At this time the cold waters of Hudson Bay reduces the summer temperatures
making it cool in parts of northeastern Ontario till the Kirkland Lake. However,
the northernmost parts of Ontario beyond 50 deg North has servere cold winters
and short cool to warm summers and temperature swings is possible throughout the
year. Temperatuers below -40 deg C is also experienced at times and at times
snow stays on ground for almost six months at a stretch.
